An Alaskan Adventure: Hearts Overboard by Becky Dean

 Yet another Becky Dean masterpiece!!! 👏🏻🥳

I am LOVING how no two stories of hers are the same. In this rivals-to-lovers journey through the great landscapes of Alaska, I was instantly hooked (what did you expect? It’s Becky Dean!). The amazing backstories Dean created to make their lives recognizable, relatable, and unique had me literally on the floor laughing, as well as sympathizing. Their childhood interactions—hilarious, and serious—fit so seamlessly into the plot that i caught myself grinning visibly, over and over!! And the hidden depth that each character has, but that isn’t revealed until you think you can’t get any more attached to them…that’s the peak of the adventure! 

You might be tempted to think I simply give 5 stars to every book I read, but that’s not true—I just love and appreciate good writing and great books! And I’m sorry (I’m not), but a completely clean (language free, spice free, etc.) novel that not only takes me on a trip so vividly it’s like I am there, but has an addictive love story of absolute adorableness and undeniable humor??? Yeah, I AM THERE. 🤭

SO, in this situation, we have confident, athletic, popular Tanner Woods and down-to-business, smart, schedule-oriented Savannah Moore. The two have been forced to play nice with each other in far too many instances since their moms work together (oh, and happen to be best friends). This cruise is not exception. Except, maybe the two don’t actually hate each other. For someone who hates change, Savannah is blown off course when her boyfriend—publicly—breaks up with her, and even more so when this guy she’s loathed her whole life, offers to help her become more “fun” and “open”. 

If you want a summary, go read the back of the book. I’m just here to tell you a bit of my thoughts! 💭 

👩🏼CHARACTERS🧑🏻 (forgive me if I leave something out, it’s been a minute)

Savannah — Not gonna lie, the way she literally couldn’t have anything but what she knew she always had for breakfast had me thinking she’s a little… controlling. I am using that lightly. BUT! I love me some amazing character development, and I was not disappointed, to say the least! For a girl who generally sounds uninteresting to read the POV of, I was delighted to find genuine results and satisfaction through her eyes. She’s reliable, loyal, and funny, but you’d have to get to know her to see that. She was even real for the way she thought about life and the way she lived it, and I adore Dean’s way of diving into it. OVERALL: I loved her! 

Tanner — one word… hottie. I had to say it! Honestly, on the surface he is attractive, and just reading about his interactions with Savannah had me kicking my feet in anticipation, even when they would rather live on opposite sides of the planet to each other. But as you, the reader, started getting glimpses of his true personality, not just who he wanted people to see, it was like a reward (iykyk🍹😉). And I am telling you, the second half of the book there’s like a point where i was like “Oh dang! Wait, I need to know more!”. His “dumb jock” aesthetic collided in the best way possible with the heart that he truly has, one that you’ll have to experience yourself! Hehe! OVERALL: heck yeah. 

Dottie — (I had to.) She may be minor, but I loved her appearances. Anytime she opened her mouth, I laughed. Hard. You’ll love her too.

❗️Yup, so sorry, but they are the only ones I saw fit of a beautiful description. However, I thoroughly loved everyone else too. I don’t think Dean has any bad characters 🤔(that she doesn’t intend to be bad, anyway)❗️

✍🏻If i must say it, since I think y’all should know by now, Dean’s ability to transport a reader to the land of the novel—wherever that may be—is impeccable, and if not for that, then the wholesome story she intertwines with the scenery wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable. Well, maybe, since the plot is solid. But you understand what I mean. If I’ve never wanted to visit Alaska, I do now! ✈️🐻🌲

You are NEVER bored!! 🤯 Eager to get to the next chapter is understandable, but with Becky Dean, you are in the moment and loving every second of it!!

👩‍💻This goes without saying, but for the sake of attempting to cover all bases: The writing itself was incredible, talented, and genuine. Not just the romance, but the relationship that you get to witness firsthand is enough to prompt you to cancel plans and make sleep optional because you just HAVE to finish reading!! I kid you not, the sweetest moments revealed in this brilliant story will have you squealing! 💓 I am already holding my breath for Dean’s latest: ✨Love Unmasked✨

🌶️Spice/sexual/innuendo — Absolutely none! Only harmless romance with adorable longing and sweet kisses (not detailed). Very gentlemanly 🥹.

🤬Language — Absolutely no cursing or swearing. I don’t even think they took the LORD’s name in vain. “Freaking” like one time.

🏳️‍🌈LGBTQ — Absolutely none.

🧙‍♀️Spirituality — None. Not even “Mother Earth” (thank goodness, cuz the author acknowledges Jesus as her LORD and Savior🙌🏻) but no “god” or “God” is mentioned.
