An Italian Getaway: Love Unmasked by Becky Dean
It’s flawless. It’s beautiful. It’s so, so swoony. It’s a complete scheduling disaster because the desire to finish this book in one setting is greater than that of whatever else you have going on.
I don’t know about everyone, but when I set this book down after finishing, I not only had a lasting “book hangover” but a bittersweet feeling inside me at the thought that this is her most recent book, which means I’m now stuck waiting for her to write another!
I can’t narrow down quite what put this one over the top — yes, even above her others! Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled by all four of her books, absolutely. But this one, whether the effect was stronger since I had three of her previously published works backing it up, or she simply excelled with each manuscript she wrote, had me fully engrossed and happily devouring the pages.
✍🏻The writing itself is, yet again, edge-of-your-seat, all-encompassing, and downright addictive. The plot is solid, adorable, and entertaining. The characters are gorgeous in their unique ways, and so well executed. The dialogue is probably one of my favorite parts. Because, please, who can resist hilarious, wit-filled banter between two people who are polar opposites?? For the record, the banter and priceless humor exceeds merely two people, that is for sure. Not to mention—but I am totally gonna mention—the painted picture of a drop-dead stunning destination! My words could not describe the way Dean’s words bring the backdrop to life, and literally cause you to feel as though you’ve been exactly where the characters have. There’s no confusion, only pure bliss and imagination that allows you to mentally see their adventures in your own mind! Obviously, I can’t say enough.
👩💻The story!!! Ahh okay so I am not calm about this (if you couldn’t tell…) because how the heck are words on paper so amazing?! The character development is pure perfection. Except, there is no such thing as perfection (except for God, of course🙌🏻). So it’s just that good. 😇 The romance? I can’t. My heart was racing in delightful anticipation, my eyes rushing over words (then doubling back to make sure I didn’t miss a hand movement or something😍). Oh, and the feet! The feet were kicking like nobody’s business and squeals did, in fact, make it out of my mouth. So light-hearted and tender! And that’s just part of it. The rest is timeless floating through Italian canals, mouth-watering gelato, and to-die-for sunsets. 🌅 🇮🇹 There were no such thing as lulls in conversation or storyline; day and night, there was adventure. I’m not kidding, these are worth reading! It all is!! I didn’t even touch on the nighttime excitement! *all completely clean, I promise, just in case anyone takes that wrong* Also, it’s on the back of the book, so just read the summary!

👩🏽CHARACTERS🧑🏽 — (side note: emojis need to come out with more human faces with different hair colors and skin tones)
Evie 💃🏽🎭— she’s so fun!! I really enjoyed her real self, not the facade she feels like she needs to put up. But! How else would we get such a lovely title? I admit, there were some parts where I was a bit skeptical about her thinking, only because she really had to deal with the root problem of her fears. But that’s what I love! Again, character development 👌🏻🤩
Gabriel — Hah. Shady. I try not to root for the bad boys, but honestly, from the very beginning, I needed to know more. There’s always something, and you will not be disappointed! Go read this book, then we’ll chat about his character. 😍
Angelo 🕺🏽🎭— okay, perfect gentleman! Not what I’d expect from someone who’s also sneaking out at night in a foreign city across the world for a secret fandom club! But totally worth swooning over. I can’t even say more, because the experience you need to have yourself is too good to explain! 🥹😎
‼️Everyone else beautifully described in this novel played a crucial role, and it makes all the difference!‼️

🌶️Spice/sexual/innuendo — Absolutely none! No spice, just adorable longing and unknown, unexpected love! Few kisses, non-to-semi described. Sensual feelings, none explicit or gross, just a desire to hand-hold, etc. Other than that, I can’t remember anything that was noteworthy.
🤬Language — Absolutely none! No profanity, no swearing or cursing. I don’t even think they took the LORD’s name in vain. “Freaking” like one time.
🏳️🌈LGBTQ — Absolutely none.
🧙♀️Spirituality — None. Not even “Mother Earth” (thank goodness, cuz the author acknowledges Jesus as her LORD and Savior🙌🏻) but no “god” or “God” is mentioned.
