One Heart-Throbbing Retelling: A New Cinderella
I’M GONNA DIE WHERE IS THE NEXT ONE AND WHY IS IT NOT IN MY HANDSSSSSS???!!!
*ahem* ๐ฎ๐จ๐ต๐ซ
Okay, read this more than a week ago, and yet I am still absolutely ecstatic about writing this review. I definitely can’t and won’t touch on every aspect of this book, because there is way too much to say. Without further ado… My Review of Cinder!! (The Lunar Chronicles #1): *the series title makes so much more sense upon reading… hehe๐๐*
CHARACTERS:
Starting off strong with: Cinder! — beautiful. Just, beautiful. She is the most well-rounded character I have seen in a long time. Absolutely wholesome and admirable. The emotional damage I have on her behalf is immeasurable. SO many amazing things I could say about her, and therefore, her creator. I am taken away. No other way to say it. ๐ฆพ๐ฆฟ๐ฉ๐ง๐งฐ⚙️๐ธ
Adri — she can dig a massive hole in the middle of the earth and stay there for all of eternity. Please. I INSIST. She might cry, but she’s not human. (That’ll make more sense if you read the book)
Peony — *sobs* no comment other than LOVE YOU PEONY and HOW DARE YOU MARISSA MEYER
Pearl — *sniff* escort this girl out of my presence immediately and preserve her NO dignity!
Dr. Dimitri Erland — gotta be honest, did not trust this guy for like half the book, under good reason. Secrets, dude. Secrets! But he certainly gained my trust and now he’s good. ๐
Queen Levana — yeah… nope ๐ฉธ๐ช๐
Okie the one you’ve all been waiting for… Prince Kai๐คด— I humbly admit… I FELL FOR HIM AT HIS FIRST APPEARENCE ๐๐ฅน๐ eeekkkk. And I am NOT one to enlist book boyfriends. May I just say… WOW. Respect, dude. His charisma and genuine character precedes any royal expectation and etiquette mannerism assumed to accompany his position. In other words, he’s perfect. But he’s not cheesy or unrelatable! He has a quirky smile, optimistic but realistic personality, who sometimes wonders if he has a chance of anything he alone wants. As of the end of Cinder, he deserves your trust, care, and emotional attachment! ๐ฅฒ
OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES I DON’T CARE TO CATEGORIZE:
The book as a whole blew me off the rocker and felt like diving into the deep end. Personally, I have never read a retelling, and if others are as good as this one, I’M IN. Some of my main points that had me rating this book the full 5 stars…
✍️Marissa Meyer never lost my attention. Heck, I read it in 2 1/2 days if you don’t count the few hours of sleep I actually got over it. Little things that were SO SIGNIFICANT made the whole difference. I’ve never come face-to-page with a book like this: one that keeps me guessing just enough to turn the page in thrilling anticipation and practically leap into the next chapter. For the WHOLE book! A major aspect I noticed for me personally is that I would guess a lot of big things happening before they occurred (perhaps that’s how the author intended it to be, but I like to say it’s something a fellow writer would notice *that said, I am barely a writer haha*). Why is that important? Because nearly directly after I guessed a plot twist, it happened, and I was never left hanging. I think that is a huge tactic to keep a reader intrigued. Meaning, I didn’t feel the need to skip ahead and spoil things for myself because I didn’t have to wait! It was amazing! ๐
Beautiful and distinguished contrasts between the original Cinderella story and this retelling, such as minor details outside of the huge differences. I absolutely loved how Cinder’s best friend (androids not included) was her stepsister! And i know there were so many more details like that, that i adored.
๐The Romance! I think, no, know, I squealed and cried and danced and sobbed along with the plot, and the sweet, harmless (except for the characters themselves, ofc), to-die-for love trope. I can’t even describe it. GO READ IT and you’ll be right here with me! No spice, no sexual anything. Simple, adorable, unlikely attraction. Kisses: yes. Left you wanting more (in the cleanest way possible, I am a follower and Believer of God’s Word!!).
*moment for the elevater scene* *AHHHHHH I think I’ll die of cuteness* Iykyk! ๐ not to mention the ball… i actually can’t.
Alright, time to wrap this up with a couple things that i did NOT like. Nothing crazy, just for me personally, I hated how Meyer implemented several suicide attempts to show how powerful and evil the enemy is. Left me gaping in horror. That is where i say it got a bit too intense. There is definitely implied violence and tons of threats. Those aren’t bad, necessarily, but I know Meyer is sort of known for her tragic endings… so we’ll see. Since Cinder was left on a massive cliffhanger *dun dun DUN* i better see some happy endings!!
Okay, I believe that is all for now! Thanks so much for sticking with me til here. Hope this insight and perspective/opinion is helpful! Definitely, highly recommend!! HAPPY READING!!
Til next time ๐๐๐☕️✝️๐
