Scarlet: A Thrilling Fairytale
ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Yet I know more are to comeπ₯²
OKAY, so, this one was even more emotionally damaging, confusing, exciting, and nerve-rattling than Cinder! Don’t know that I was prepared for it, but then again, who can be?
I will not lie, Marissa Meyer has captured my attention yet again and refuses to release it until further satisfaction. I have a strong feeling I will not be seeing much of a happily ever after for any of the main girlies until the series concludes because THAT, people, is how an author keeps you up at night! π
Alright, let’s dive into a bit more detail.
3.75 stars rounded up to 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨Why?✨
π«€⚠️Because I am only just now hearing how Scarlet is the most physically violent installation out of the whole Lunar Chronicles series, and how the measure of intensity of destruction in a graphic-enough way goes from low to VERY HIGH in a couple pages. Granted, it was probably not the best choice to read this part at 1:00 in the morning (do NOT roll your eyes, I know you’ve done the same thingπ), but still. I didn’t appreciate reading the last quarter of the book, and skimmed through a bloody—not to mention confusing, with man/wolf beings everywhere—fight scene during an attack on Earth that was considered small by the Lunars.
π©π»✍️I definitely think there could’ve been a bit more romance/funny banter/lighthearted talk (at least try!) to balance out murderous plots and deathly circumstances. I get it, when your world is being threatened, light banter is not a usual thing, but I know an author can implement something.
πΊ❌I could’ve done without the horrifying details of the deaths of many people on Earth due to disgusting genetically engineered wolf-men. I don’t need a picture of what that looks like. And the descriptions of these mutations had me so confused as to what they actually looked like that I stopped trying to figure it out.
πΆHOWEVERπΆ
The wild dynamics, tense circumstances, entertaining risky relationships, and looming doom made for a unique, lovable story between a certain fiery redhead and mysterious street fighter who may have intentions beyond coincidence… π€
I couldn’t get enough of the odd, yet adorable way things are between the two. And I will well admit they had me clutching the book and giggling, all thanks to the suspense and tension leading up to the cutest parts! π€π

Overall I would recommend Scarlet, it definitely is part of the series and important to the plot. It wasn’t my personal favorite and I enjoyed Cinder over it, but I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
If you’re up for a gripping, heart-racing adventure about a broken sci-fi fantasy fairytale retelling, go pick up Cinder!!
Jesus is LORD! ✝️
Until next time, happy reading! ππΌπ☕️
PS. Content is clean, or else I wouldn’t be reading it. No cursing π€¬, no LGTBQ π³️π, no sex or anything near it (only kissing, not graphic to semi-graphic). Just violence. Not OVER THE TOP gore but enough to get the gist plus some.
